Take for example; it was debates back in late nineteenth century and early twentieth century whereby there was enactment of an act that made sure that there would be no homework given to children. Research has also found that children who are given homework and those who are not given homework have no difference in performance hence raising the question for the need for homework. In this research, the learner would like to know, are children being given too much homework? It has been argued that there is an increasing necessity of having homework given to school going children. The main reason that is highlighted is that homework helps in bringing attention to the child on serious matters that are developed over time. Homework is also intended to aid in learning as well as averting behavioral problems.

In Lord of the Flies, there are many characters, objects, and events that display the fact that when rules in society are absent, chaos is present. Within these events and objects are examples, which lead us to believe that absence of rules destroys organization and structure within the boys. Answer: The journey from Terminal Bersepadu Selatan (TBS) Bus Station, Kuala Lumpurto Christ Church, Malacca is approximately 135.8 Km. it takes approximately 3 hours by bus. The Terminal Bersepadu Selatan is the major long distance bus terminal in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Next to it is joined by the Bandar Tasik Selatan station which is a rail interchange station. The buses leave as from 2 pm in the afternoon up to 3pm. At the TBS there is KFC restaurant which is a fast food chain known for its fried chicken, however, its level of cleanliness is very poor and therefore most travellers do opt for the luxurious Fuel Shack Restaurant which is some distance from the TBS. Fuel Shack is very hygienic even though the customer service is not up to standard and it has very small packing space as compared to KFC. On the way from the Bus station before exiting the car pack of the station are two more restaurants namely; Nasi Kandar TBS and Pak Hailam Kopitiam. The restaurants are hygienic with a safe car pack but the space is very small since it is right beside the road. Outside the Bus park is the Taxi Service Point to the left. The road condition from the Bus Park up to the terminus that joins the Sungai Besi Expressway is good and has clear traffic lights and road signs that are clearly visible from far. The Sungai Besi Expressway is roughly 28 Km long with three interchanges; the first being at the UPM interchange at which it joins the North-South Expressway, the SILK Highway and Jalan Serdang. Also, the exits are cleary numbered from South to North. The second roundabout at the Sungai Besi Expressway at the junction from the Bus terminus exits and joins the Shah AlamExpressway. Along the Express high way there is a McDonalds restaurant that offers fast foods, with ample packing and is clean. There is also the Seremban Mines Resort City that has ATMs, a petrol station and spacious packing space. Ahead of the Mines Resort is the point of exit which later joins the Kuala LumpurSeremban Expressway at the partial toll road. Along the exit route is the Soma tam Tom Yam restaurant which is mainly offers Chinese food but with very small packing space and very few customers. Additionally, there is a fashion accessory store, Hany Fesyen just before the Chinese food restaurant. Along the stretch of Kuala LumpurSeremban Expressway a major accident occurred where two male adults and one teenager were seriously injured when the car they were traveling in rammed into the dividing wall of the road at Km303.9. The two adults succumbed to the injuries while the teenager was rushed to Serdang hospital for treatment. The condition of the Expressway was above bar as there were no pot holes and the road signs were clearly visible from far for instance, the distance to Melaka, Seremban and Kuala Lumpur were clearly visible. The Kuala LumpurSeremban Expressway underpasses the Bukit Jail Highway at the Federal territory of Kuala Lumpur. The street lights of the Expressway are strategically positioned with clear road signs seen from a distance. Alongside the highway are pedestrian paths that are clearly marked with grown trees on either side. Immediately after the Bukit Jail Highway, there is the Home Goods Store to the left and Furniture Store adjacent to it. They are dimly visible for they are far from the Expressway. An immediate exit leads to Surau Stesen Shell Petrol station which has ample parking space and offers basic car services. Next to the petrol station is the Islam prayer house. A lot of bill boards are however noticeable along the stretch of the highway for instance the one opposite the Nouvelle Hotel. Petron Petrol station is next together with McDonalds with limited parking space. The condition of the road to this point is upt to the standard of developed countries; with street lights even ly distributed in the middle of the road, and on the sidewalks, also the green trees planted along the road sides and the grass makes the road look beautiful. At Seri Kembangan, Selangor there is KFC restaurant which is clean, affordable food but limited car pack. Next to KFC is the BHP petrol station with some small packing space. The petrol station also contains a restaurant. The NorthSouth Expressway stretched for a number of kilometres with green grass and trees on either side. An apple shop is also on the sideways. Big street which overpasses the North-South Expressway is clear and installed with street lights. The highway that overpass at the RC Station Sdn Bhd is clear and even the advertisements and the lights on adverts are clearly seen. The road signs on the NorthSouth Expressway are very clear, for example the sign that has Alice Smith School and Equine Park on it. However, the site near the sign where they sell construction materials is untidy and disorganized. Perhaps the government should establish a proper site a little bit far from the Expressway so as to avoid the traffic caused by the trucks that turn at that exit. The BH P petrol station before Minton building is spacious and has car services facilities. After the BHP petrol station is another one called Petronas which is equally clean and alongside there are Subway, KFC, Kenny rogers Poasters restaurants with ample parking space as well. All the restaurants are in one building and their hygiene is up to standard although they are quite expensive and small. I believe their capacity should be improved because they serve all the people travelling in the highway to avoid the congestion that I experienced. The South Klang Valley Expressway overpasses the NorthSouth Expressway near The Grand Palace at Huazong. The South Klang Valley Expressway is equally clean from far with nice bill board advertisements on it. The overhead road signs near DatoMohamed Raja Residency are clear and visible from far. However, the NorthSouth Expressway has not streetlights at this point and yet there are a lot of trees and even a nearby forest. Such a place ought to have some lighting so as to drive away darkness which may harbour criminals. The mosque near KLIA College is strategically located for the Muslims travelling on the highway and it has spacious parking. The underpass near the Langat River after D'rahmat Tom Yam has a lot of waste scattered along the roadside. The state should establish a dumpsite to correct this mess. The construction site near the Mosque Al-azim is well located outside town and far from the main road. The underpass that serves as it exit and entrance is well maintained and helps to avoid traffic. The rest stop at Senawang South Bound is very tidy and has enough parking space with security guards both at the entrance and exit points. The adjacent RR Senawang is also clean and has lots of car park spaces. However the it does not have much regarding to food varieties except for some few hawkers that sell fruit and a nearby shop that offers drinks. Two other more construction zones are situated some distance apart on the NorthSouth Expressway. Their position is far from residential places and surrounded by forests and connected by underpasses which are not that well maintained. The ministry should always maintain standard feeder roads tha t connect to the construction zones for easy transportation of building materials. River Rembau that passes below the NorthSouth Expressway is a big river with moderately clean water. The NorthSouth Expressway these points does not have lights except at stop overs and even billboards are few in number. However, road signs are strategically positioned at intervals with Forests being more pronounced on either sides of the road. The condition of Hemus Street that crosses the NorthSouth Expressway is up to standard with clear road signs on the sideways of the Expressway. An RR called Ayer Keroh which extends as a by-pass is indeed magnificent; it has a spacious parking lot, variety of meals and at affordable rates. On the same by-pass is KFC and Al-Ikhsan RnR which appear clean. The Malacca River is clearly visible from the Expressway with its rather clean water. Bill boards start to appear as we approach the state of Malacca. The diversion from the Expressway to the Ayer Keroh town brings us to the square toll which is marked out clearly and the workers there still offer assistance in case of inquiry. The clearly visible bill boards also welcome you to Malacca. Additionally, the Ayer Keroh gate is clearly market out and visible from far. The Melacca Townstay is right alongside the road offers a serene environment for accommodation with security and spacious car park. The facility has small shop outlets and nearby gas station. The road condition of Ayer Keroh highway is up to standard with street lighting and road signs and directions signs that clearly points out the respective state offices and other government ministries. The Bendahara Street from the Ayer Keroh highway leads to the Christ church. Nervous System Adaptation Adaptation plays a significant role in exercise development as seen by mental imagery, cross education, and coactivation. The body must establish and modify it's own neural network before it can strengthen. A weight lifter can improve his workouts by understanding the fundamentals of NSA. The nervous system plays a large role in how a muscle develops. For example Scientists have found that people who visualize their workouts can stimulate a significant amount of muscle growth. Although scientists would not advise solely visualized workouts they do stress the importance of good mental preparation to help physiological adaptation. Another example of how the nervous system effects muscle development is in cross education. When one injures a muscle often times the doctor will tell them to work the opposite uninjured muscle. This action will indirectly stimulate the injured muscle. When a novice weight lifter flexes a muscle, the opposing muscle restricts movement. After working out for a period of time, this misfiring of the neurons will dissipate. This phenomenon is known as coactivation. Also, in synchronization a novice weight lifter's movements will be shaky until his or her neural network has adjusted itself.

One may argue that in any historical development, racial formation and meaning cannot be separated. To give meaning to race, and then signify, understand, or even embody it is to both openly and unreservedly trace it in terms of social organization. This association between structure and culture gives racial developments their harmony and coherence, and serves as the foundation of the process of racial formation. Therefore, once it is believed that racial diversity is a matter of what one determines for oneself, or that race is a false relic beyond the state’s observation, or that the U.S. is a natural white man’s territory, what follows it are fitting social and economic programs and political orientation (Winant 45-47). In this view, Yezierska’s written works could be considered as the embodiment of racial formation and modernism. It can be seen as the writer’s ambivalent meeting with Hollywood’s market values and film mores. It can also be seen as a sample of emerging immigrant feminism. The book â€Å"Bread Givers† by Yezierska provides a good reading in researching the events of compromise between the native and immigrant whites in the 1920s. The names of places in this book are fictional, but the story itself was largely inspired by the life of the white, particularly Jewish, immigrants in New York. This novel provides a good narrative of the vast experiences and beliefs of the immigrants who served as the novel’s inspiration. Tahitians and the Nootka To Compare these two groups, the Tahitians and the Nootka one must consider that there are considerable similarities but there are certain differences which allow them to be set apart. The Tahitians set themselves apart as evolved and fit the model for intensive farmers, since they are blessed with the rich soil and adequate rain fall. The Nootka too, are somewhat in the scope but they are still categorized as hunter-gatherers. This can be explained in many different ways, the Tahitians climate allows for them to wear less clothing, as it is quite tropical. The Nootka have to go through a chilly North America climate though there is still warm air from Japan. The Nootka land provides them with big game and this can give them warmth in colder days. This account for some of their hunter instinct. The Tahitians are more focused on cultivating their land which, as opposed to that the Nootka. They both cultivate their land to accommodate their needs and fish intensively as a mean of subsistence. Their similarities run way deeper than just these habits based upon the ecological model of culture it will simplify the and also the differences. The most obvious difference is in the language and population density of them two. The Tahitians numbered about 100,000 whereas the Nootka are only around 6000 or a little more. As far as nutrition goes the diet is similar in fish, the Tahitians though are excellent farmers and can cultivate the land very well. The Nootka because of their ecological surroundings are able to hunt game as well as fishing and their unmatched ability to store food makes them a successful hunter gatherer society. Stone, shells, bones and wood make up the materials used for tools, the other materials available are the grass, the branches of the coconut trees for example. Their tools include harpoons and series of hooks and line for fishing. For construction stone drills, wedges and adzes, however the Nootka have hunting weaponry such as bow and arrow, spears and traps for hunting game. They both posses the skill of carpentry, they build houses and make boats and also paper with great skill and workmanship. The Impact of Student Behavior on Student Learning is an important subject. There are varying issues that affect student behavior, and a students ability to learn and perform efficiently. This paper will discuss some of the behaviors that are commonly demonstrated when students face one of the most common symptoms; stress. It will also cover how stress, a symptom of student behavior can affect student learning. Student behavior can be categorized two different ways. A determining factor is if the behavior is negative or positive. These behaviors can be overt or covert and can play a big part in determining a student grade in a particular class. Students demonstrating poor behavior have a tendency to get lower grades. Poor behavior, which is a symptom of stress, can be linked to lack of sleep. According to The Franklin Institute Online, â€Å"Disrupting routines and interrupting sleep-all have a cumulative effect on your brain, especially its ability to remember and learn† (Franklin, 2004). The brain is a precious organism and if it is stressed it will not perform to capacity. Stress can cause ones behavior to fluctuate in a manner that can be destructive to productivity. If a student’s behavior fluctuates and causes them to react poorly in a class room setting they may not be able to retain the information needed to qualify for the grades necessary to complete their degree (K. White, personal communication, June 29, 2011). According to the Webster online dictionary, the definition of behavior is â€Å"the manner of conducting oneself; anything that an organism does involving action and response to stimulation† (Webster, 2011). Human beings have the capability to conduct themselves in a manner that may or may not help their capacity for learning. The wrong type of stimulation can alter the student’s ability to perform simple tasks that under normal circumstances would be easy for the student to perform. The behavior displayed by students affects the outcome of the amount of information the student retains. The more information a student can retain the better the grades that student is likely to receive. By definition, behavior is ‘the manner in which one conducts oneself’, and cannot be measured as good or bad because it is a matter of opinion (K. White, personal communication, June 29, 2011). Behaviors can be changed or altered to fit the mood of the person. â€Å"The term â€Å"stress† is short for distress, a word evolved from Latin that means â€Å"to draw or pull apart.† The Romans even used the term ‘districtia’ to describe â€Å"a being torn asunder† (Franklin, 2004). To be torn from your normal routine of good study habits, exams, and team work would be understandable in the case of a stressed student. Since the student has limited, or no control over the stressors in their life; they cannot always be held responsible for their behavior. A behavior can be harmful to the outcome of a situation but does not have to mean that the person with the behavior is bad or good (K. White, personal communication, June 29, 2011). In the same since that negative and positive behavior don’t equate to bad or good. Negative behavior is any behavior that harms the student’s learning ability (K. White, personal communication, June 29, 2011). An example would be a student that shows signs of stress. That student may be edgy or not seem like a team player. The student may grasp the main concepts during class but not seem to put the effort forth to get good grades where tests are involved. This student may understand concepts and be able to explain to others with ease how they work. This student may also miss deadlines, or not post assignments on time. This negative behavior is harmful to the student, but due to stress the student is not able to control the negative behavior. The student may not be aware of the way their behavior is disrupting their school life and will not recognize the affect on their grades (K. White, personal communication, June 29, 2011). â€Å"Overt behaviors are more open and observable and would include students talking during class, using their cellular phones, or eating or drinking noisily. Covert behaviors are more passive and include sleeping during class, arriving to class late, leaving class early, or generally acting bored and disengaged.† (Seidman, 2005) Demonstration of these behaviors may be done together or separately. A student can demonstrate just covert behavior and still seem defiant. Both covert and overt behaviors can be a sign of stress. The student who demonstrates these behaviors may not recognize that they are being a distraction to the class or to themselves. They can also attribute to poor or no study habits. Both behaviors can cause problems for the student because they can hinder the student’s ability to perform in a class setting. For example: A student can understand the concepts in a course but have trouble staying awake during class and miss important notes or assignment deadlines. When this student post an assignment too late to receive full credit their grade is affected. The student has shown signs of overt behavior but did not intend to be seen as disruptive. Often students have no idea that the outcome of their behavior can lead to poor grades. Some students are able to correct their poor grades with good grades by a change in their behavior. The symptom that will show in lieu of stress would be happiness or a since of calm. Students who demonstrate negative behavior will have a hard time retaining information or keeping up with their courses. Students with positive behavior will have a better chance of retaining the maximum amount of information possible. Positive behavior helps the student to create an environment within themselves that is conducive to learning (K. White, personal communication, June 29, 2011). Students who are stress free in mind, body, and soul are free to work at full capacity to achieve their academic goals. When a student feels comfortable with their surroundings and is freed from worrying about the outside world, the student will have a higher level of concentration on school work as all other distractions have been managed or eliminated. They will be able to focus their energy on studying , and processing the information studied. (K. White, personal communication, June 29, 2011). Behaviors can be changed or altered with help of others. Most schools have an academic advisor who is able to handle student issues. They may not be able to completely assist in matters of home life but may have some good suggestions and or referrals that may help the student get back on track. A change in student behavior for the good can impact student learning in a positive way. â€Å"Bear in mind that an appropriate stress response is a healthy and necessary part of life. It improves mood. Problems feel more like challenges, which encourages creative thinking that stimulates your brain to grow new connections within it.† (Franklin, 2004). In conclusion, student behavior can be a symptom of underlying issues that can affect student learning for different reasons and in many different ways. Hunter Marshall May 6th 2016 Mr. Mehos C Period African Americans Aid The North Without the Aid of the African Americans the North would have lost the Civil war against the South. 180,000 African americans volunteered to help the North fight against the South, Lincoln credits these men of color as the reason the North won the war. For Northern blacks, the Emancipation Proclamation represented an enormous victory, and urged many to enlist. In Massachusetts, abolitionist governor John A. Andrew immediately mustered a regiment of African Americans, the Fifty-fourth Regiment of Massachusetts ran by Robert Gould Shaw. At the time, there was widespread skepticism among whites about allowing blacks to fight. After the 54th Regiment was created the South threatened to execute any black soldier caught, and would executed any white officers of a black man. Beginning in October 1863, approximately 180,000 African-Americans, comprising 163 units, served in the U.S. Army, and in the Navy. The men of color (U.S.C.T.) units went on to distinguish themselves on battlefields east and west, as they rained havoc along the South. Some of their attacks were at Port Hudson, Louisiana; Honey Springs, Oklahoma; Fort Wagner, South Carolina; and New Market Heights, Virginia. African Americans constructed about 10% of the United States Army. This may not seem like a lot of people, however it largely aided us in many battles, one battle that really stands out is the battle of Fort Wagner, South Carolina, the African Americans played a major part in helping the North during this battle.
